The Nigerian government has sued Facebook, asking it to pay a fine of N30bn

The Nigerian Marketing Commission said it has filed a lawsuit against Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, and its agent, AT3 Resources Limited, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the agency said that continuing to post advertisements to Facebook and Instagram followers in Nigeria without first obtaining approval before posting them is illegal and in violation of the Advertising Act from nigeria.

The agency said that the Meta company continued to spread such advertisements that caused the federal government to lose revenue.

The agency is asking the Meta company to pay a fine of 30 billion naira for violating the marketing laws it has committed.
