The police said they managed to rescue nine women from different Nigerian states who were about to be transported to Libya on Wednesday.
The spokesperson of the Katsina State Police, SP Gambo Isah, who disclosed this, said that as a result of the information they received, their officers raided a hideout of smugglers in Daura local government area where they rescued the women.
Punch newspaper reported that the speaker explained about the women where he said, "Those who were rescued are Timilaye Ojo aged 26 from Lagos State, Blessing Joseph aged 19 from Edo State and Khadija Abdullahi aged 26 from Ondo State.
"Also there is Safiyyat Ahmed aged 21 from Lagos State and Precious Nuhu aged 22 from Kaduna State and Bolanle Adewusi aged 32 from Ogun State," he said.
The spokesman said, "The others are Okpoekwu Eunice, 28 years old from Enugu State, Kabirat Azeez, 19 years old from Ondo State and Taiwo Adeolo, 27 years old from Ondo State."
The police spokesperson said, during the investigation they found that the women were taken from Kano State to Daura in Katsina State, in a car, the driver of which fled and left the women after he saw the nigerian police.
He added that they will be taken to Libya through Niger, before they are rescued, and he assured that the traffickers will be caught as the investigation is ongoing.
